Chapter 13 He Came
"What are you doing standing at the gate?" her colleague asked with a smile. Zhiyan subconsciously murmured "uh-huh" twice, realizing what she had just said, and quickly changed her words: "Ah, no, I'm waiting for a taxi."
She got on a taxi, the driver asked her where to go, she silently handed over the address in her hand to the driver, and her mind wandered away.
The driver was a middle-aged man, plump and looking very honest. Seeing the little girl next to him with an absent-minded expression, he asked foolishly: "Miss, who is hospitalized?"
Nie Zhiyan was stunned for a long time before responding, "Oh, just a classmate."
The driver seemed bored and wanted to find someone to talk to, so he asked again: "Miss, is it your boyfriend?"
Nie didn't quite catch what the driver said and subconsciously responded with a "hmm", then his gaze shifted back to the rapidly receding scenery outside the window.
The driver saw that the girl seemed reluctant to talk and also shut her mouth without saying a word.
They soon arrived at the hospital, and when An Zhishan gave the money, she couldn't help but complain that the driver was driving too fast. She took a glance at her phone and was stunned to find that more than an hour had passed!
Is it because your phone is broken?
It's still new...
The hospital was filled with the smell of disinfectant, pungent and irritating to the nose. As I walked through the hallways towards the inpatient department, I saw medical staff wearing white coats and patients looking unwell, their heads hung low. After passing through the long corridors and staircases, I finally stood at the door of room 513.
The door was slightly ajar, leaving only a narrow gap. Through that gap, he saw Lu Yiheng's pale face and the back of a girl. The girl said something to him, Lu Yiheng smiled lightly, then reached out his hand to gently stroke the girl's head.
It was as if a basin of ice water had been poured over his head, Nie's words left him standing stiffly in place, his face even paler than Lu Yiheng's on the hospital bed.
Nie Zhen's words, why did you come?
What brings you here?
Whatever he is like has nothing to do with you!
But it still hurts so much, my heart feels like it's being torn apart, and I feel like crying.
"...what was said?" A somewhat uncertain voice sounded in her ear, surprisingly still with the same loving tone as many years ago.
Nie Zhiyan clearly saw Lu Yiheng suddenly look over at her from the hospital bed, his eyes sharp as a repeatedly honed blade, as if he had seen something he shouldn't have. She hastily turned her head away, like a child who had done something wrong and was afraid of being punished by their parents, her face full of shock.
"Ah, Auntie," Nīe Zhīyán spoke with a knot in his throat.
"Really? You're back in the country?"
"I, I," Nie Zhiyan stirred her fingers, and the corner of her eye caught a glimpse of Lu Yiheng starting to pull out the needle tube. She felt a pang in her heart and said, "Auntie, I still have something to do, sorry..."
Nie Ziyu hastily ran down the stairs and sprinted towards the outside of the hospital.
The sound behind her was thrown away and disappeared quickly from her ears.
After getting off the taxi and returning to the apartment, she slowly walked upstairs. The lighting in the corridor was very dim. Nie Zhiyan's mind was elsewhere as he fumbled for his keys in his bag. With great difficulty, he finally managed to retrieve them. Just as he was about to open the door, his wrist was suddenly grasped firmly by a hand. Nie Zhiyan looked up in shock.
His face was half hidden in the shadows and half exposed to the light, somewhat dimly lit, his eyes fixed on her with an unknown anger.
"You..."
"What do you mean?" she asked, but before she could finish, he interrupted her. Zhiyan was stunned and completely bewildered by the current situation.
