Chapter 15.5 - Prepare for Darkness

  Extra content:

“Leon, sleep on the ground,” Jacob shouted.

“You’re just being dramatic,” Leon said. “This bed is enough for two of us.”

“If I hear any other noise, I will knock you all out,” Alia shouted from her room.

Zoeske whispered, “Hey, just sleep anywhere; I don’t want to be punished because of you two.”

Leon sat on the ground beside Zoeske. He asked, “You’re going to sleep that early?”

“Actually, I’m not sleepy yet,” Zoeske replied.

“What about a bedtime story?” Leon said.

“I don’t want to waste my time,” Jacob said.

“As if you can use this time in any other way,” Zoeske commented.

“Wha—” Jacob said and was interrupted by Leon.

“Yes, yes, you can practice magic or whatever,” Leon said. “You won’t die if you stop thinking about magic for once.”

“What kind of story do you have, anyway?” Jacob asked.

“Can we talk a bit quieter?” Zoeske said worried that Alia would be bothered by their voices.

“You guys heard about orcs?” Leon said.

“Orcs? What is that? Another tree?” Zoeske asked.

“Where were you living? In a cave?” Jacob asked.

“They’re a species who are giant and bloodthirsty,” Leon said. “One of us, a Malinian, got caught by one of these monsters.”

Both Zoeske and Jacob showed interest at the beginning of the story.

“This story happened when Jule and Jacha first came to this place,” Leon said. “This man was one of the first people who agreed to transfer from the kingdom to the new village. While they were building one of the houses, this man went to pee near the new village. After he finished, he was shocked to find a giant shadow that had been standing and staring at him from behind the tree in front of him. The monster’s arm was almost his size, and it was carrying a huge tree branch. The man’s scream notified both Jacha and Jule, but all they saw was the man’s pants, which he wasn’t able to fasten again.”

“What happened to him?” Zoeske asked.

“These monsters are known for their peculiar behavior,” Leon said. “They don’t eat humans, but they will play with you until you die. So, you pretty much can’t predict what kind of torture is waiting for you. Unfortunately, this man was found like an empty jar. All of his blood was sucked out from two deep injuries in this man's chest caused by the orcs’ huge teeth.”

  “Ouch,” Zoeske said.

  “You done?” Jacob said.

“Yes,” Leon said. “Was it good?”

“I kind of feel bad for that man,” Zoeske said.

“He’s not a real person,” Jacob said.

“I made up this story,” Leon said. “But I didn’t describe the orcs incorrectly.”
