One Hundred Thirty Nine

The detective brought out a professional briefcase and opened it. He motioned the three dies (and one cat) to the dinner table. He brought out three identical pieces of paper and asked them if they would be so kind as to fill out an official statement. Despite his distraction, he walked them through filling out the forms. Name, birthday, location, everything that was in the header of the form. Then, once that is done, please go to the body of the page and fill out what happened in as much detail as possible. Who, what, when, where, why, and how. All of the pertinent information. Too much detail is rarely enough.

At the end of this instruction, Yeji took over by giving the other two ideas on how to write the thing, how to phrase things, details to include, and everything that would go from essentially rambling, to an actual useable document. She showed them how she was writing hers so they could use it as a basis for how to write what they wanted to.

Nayeon asked if she could just copy Yeji’s paper verbatim. She promptly got smacked hard on two sides, scolded by the detective and Suki bit her thumb.

Seulgi told her to take this seriously as the detective’s life may be in danger and it’s not a time or pce to py.

Nayeon replied out of character and was actually seriously contrite. She then apologized with a heartfelt emotion to everyone present. They were all impressed, except for Seulgi who knew how mercurial her moods were and knew that she’d be cracking jokes again in five minutes or less. Suki didn't care.

Though, this time, she was wrong. Nayeon was seriously remorseful - this time. She made a mental effort to reign in her humor for this evening. There was a tiny glint in her eye. Only for this evening.

For about an hour, the only sound was the scratching of pen on paper. There was the occasional consultation with Yeji about what to say or how to phrase it. The detective could not officially help as it could be construed as ‘leading the statement’ or ‘interference with an official document’ and get something potentially useful thrown out as tampered evidence.

Many people didn’t understand that making a report was recognized as a legal document. It was something that you could and would be held accountable for the things you say. If you lied or deliberately misconstrued your statement, it was possible to be sent to jail for it. Yeji stressed this to the others. The only one who was not impressed with Yeji’s eloquence and passion was Suki.

So, the detective kept quiet as Yeji led the others through to process of making an official statement. Seulgi had done this kind of paperwork before, but not about anything this serious, so she wanted to make it do what she wanted.

After finishing, Nayeon and Seulgi gave their copies to Yeji to once over. Then she handed them to the detective and he read them over. Satisfied, he pced them in his briefcase and put the fsh drive that Yeji handed him into the same space as the statements.

He brought out a small pstic bag and a sharpie. He made notes on the bag about what was in it, where it was obtained, and when. He then put on some tex gloves and went to collect the badge, string, and nail. He put everything into the bag, then put it into the briefcase.

While he was working at the door, Yeji took her thumb drive and put it into the ptop Seulgi gave her. They were crowded around it, looking at the videos and the stills provided by the security team manager. They were discussing things and looking for clues of their own. They were not sure if they could pick up anything that the police could not, but they were determined to try.

Seulgi wanted to get Yeji and Bhuwakul to go over this information together as they were the ones most likely to glean anything from it.

He came back to the table where the women were discussing the goings on. He asked them if there was anything else they wanted to add or go over before he left to go back to his office. They declined to add anything else.

The detective packed everything else back into his briefcase and left. But, he was still a weak man. He had his vices, too. He gave in to one of them and gave the Princess some scritches and left before Yeji could call him on it. He didn’t run, but he wasn’t slow, either.

Seulgi’s phone pinged again. Soo-Young said that she’d be avaible to talk after her shift. She should be free sometime after ten o’clock. It was currently eight thirty, so plenty of time. She sent back a message that was fine.

Seulgi then realized how stressful that interaction was. One of the things she did when stressed out was eat, so she was hungry. She asked Nayeon to make sandwiches again.

Nayeon said that she would have to go to the store as there were no ingredients to make sandwiches for the three of them. She asked Yeji to escort Nayeon because aside from the kidnapping psychopath, there were other oddities out in the streets at night. The dies took off to go find something that was still open.

Worse case, they will come home with some fast food. KFC was still open at this hour, right?

While they went off to do their thing, Seulgi went back to the table to find Suki next to the ptop, waiting for her. She obliged the cat by stroking her silky spine with her left hand while scrolling pictures with her right. She already knew that it was Jackson in the images, so she spent most of the time scrutinizing the details around the photos. While watching the videos, she looked around the frames as well, stopping from time to time to focus on something.

She was so focused on her observations that she almost didn’t hear the key slide home on her door. She had a moment where stiffened in pce and her heart nearly froze in her chest. But then rexed when she heard Yeji and Nayeon’s familiar bickering about some nothing.

When she sat back up, correcting her posture, her back told her she had been sitting still for too long by cracking in such a way to sound like a zipper running up her spine. She knew better than to sit still for too long, so this was a visceral reminder. She got up, stretched, and got some ptes down so she could get up and move around.

She made sure to look out the window and unfocussed her eyes to make them rex, too. After getting the ptes down, she went back to the table and moved Her Holiness to the back of the couch then cleaned off the table in anticipation of eating dinner there.

She made sure to turn the computer off and set it aside so it would not get used again this evening. They can deal with the unpleasantness again tomorrow. She knew that she would never get to sleep if they started looking at the pictures again.
