"The Italians…" Mother started, leaving an annoying dramatic stop there. Just to annoy her, Elizabeth was sure of it.
"Why do you call them like that? There isn't any clan or city-state called anything like that." Agatha said from the side.
No! Don't give her a way in! This woman needs to explain what the deal with [The Prophet] was!
"The thing with Lucía is that she is too greedy," Mother said, summoning the image of a silver-haired woman dressed in a white robe with gold decorations.
"Lucia?" Elizabeth asked, looking at the image, something creeping at the back of her mind.
"Cath, you forgot to turn off the security node," Papa said, sighing and blowing air in the image's direction; somehow, his breath, instead of being colorless, was golden and tinged with so much Prana that Elizabeth almost choked on it.
As soon as that arrived in the picture, the information came crashing down, including the similarities and the face of the woman. Elizabeth had seen that woman before.
It was the only time she saw Mother angry.
During one of her birthdays, a woman had arrived with a group of men wearing black suits; Mother stormed in her direction and sent them away; it was one of the few times Elizabeth saw Mother using Magic...but not being happy or mischievous about it.
The Magic also didn't form any magic circle, unlike how Mother did usually. Instead, it was closer to seeing Magic ripping out from cracks within space.
The woman merely shook her head and left a box on the floor before leaving, that time Papa took the box and Elizabeth was not sure if she ever got the present within the box, but small girl Elizabeth didn't think too much of it.
Now however?
Elizabeth found the encounter...extremely worrying, the fact that Mother had used a school of Magic that she hadn't remembered ever seeing...The fact that her usually stoic Papa didn't retaliate against the obvious slight at his Power.
And the fact that this woman was someone that knew where Elizabeth lived...
"Lucia De' Medicci," Mother said pointing to the image, "The holiest woman on the planet, daughter of one of the ancient clans of Zaanam and founders of Veritalis."
That seemed...normal? Elizabeth felt that she should be more impressed, but honestly, ancient clans and rulers of countries or nations kinda turned average for what Elizabeth was dealing with on a daily basis.
Part of it was the fact that she had the scion of a galaxy-spanning empire stuck on her Soul for so long before; the fact that she was, in turn, the last survivor of the said clan made her, in turn, a scion of the aid clan.
And if that wasn't enough, then the fact that her Soul was currently a whole world on its own, then yeah...
A daughter of an ancient clan could not compare to the empress of a planet.
Not like that mattered at the moment, "And? What is her deal?" Elizabeth asked.
"...She wants to achieve Apotheosis, before we ascended she saw me as an obstacle since I brought Magic to the world, but even after almost 200 years I remained on the planet." Mother said with a sigh, "She thought that I couldn't achieve the next step, and so wasn't worthy to stand at the top."
....To be fair to this woman, Mother did in fact do not deserve to be at the top.
"And like the Italian she is, she didn't mind the type of things she did to achieve her goals. We had some fights because she would offer predatory deals to girls and women that made them indebted to her, having them work for her unless they wanted to suffer." Mother didn't seem to like that aspect.
If Elizabeth was a guessing girl, then the problem wasn't the fact that she used predatory contracts but that she targeted cute girls. At least from Mother's side.
"Your maid Aura is one such example, she bought her after getting her parents into debt, then used as a disposable pawn. Even while knowing that I wanted her as your friend." Mother said with a sigh.
"So that Maid is the one you wanted for her? But the medlings of [The Prophet] made it so Aurelia ended as her roommate?" Agatha asked.
Elizabeth didn't want to answer that, nor did Mother answer it.
"As for the Italian thing, the world your Mother comes from had a criminal group of people who all came from the same peninsula that Veritalis originated from. Since the De'Medicci family comes from the same place and has ties with organized crime, your Mother keeps calling them Italians." Papa explained why Mother called them as such even though there wasn't any clan, city or organization called like that. "The De'Medicci family thinks this is done out of respect so they embraced the naming though.
...that was just sad.
"After we ascended there was the problem with the power vacuum, and while we didn't prepare a replacement since we hadn't planned to ascend to godhood..." Mother said while grimacing as she summoned a video of how the magazines that had her photo started disappearing, how the statues, the action figures, the merch...all that was tied to [The Starlight Explorer] started vanishing.
"Sorry about that," Elizabeth said at that.
"It's fine Eli-Eli, I don't regret doing it. I would never regret doing anything to help you." Mother said, always using the sappy one-liners..." Now, after ascending the problem with Power... We may have not planned to leave this plane this early, but there were some plans already on the back."
"Namely [The Juggernaut] and [The Beast Master]," Papa said from the side, "Jenna is powerful, I'm sure you noticed it. Her power level is... adequate."
Adequate?
A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
Only adequate?
Jenna is a monster!
"Same can be said about Joseph," Papa carried on. So [The Beast Master] was called Joseph? That sounded more refined than Elizabeth had expected.
"I spent enough time training both up to standards, and Joseph knows to keep his priorities and responsibilities. He will make sure the planet is not destroyed," Papa nodded, "Anything he can't solve Jenna will deal with, and the other way around."
"But won't he turn Izanami into a world power?" Rena said from the side, "[The Beast Master] is partial towards Izanami right? Won't that be a problem?"
"No," Elizabeth said first.
"It doesn't matter," Rossie said secondly.
"Of course it will," Agatha chimed from the side, confused at Elizabeth and Rossie's answers.
"Not really?" Mother of course knew it wasn't a problem.
"It doesn't matter, the petty squabbles of the populace are meaningless in front of true power." Papa said balling his fist, the air around his fist cracked as the pure Power condensed there, Elizabeth was not seeing any mana manipulation or prana, anything to say that the phenomena was made out using anything else but true Might. "I made The American United Federation into the most powerful nation because I didn't want to deal with world politics too, that is a fair approach and I will not judge Joseph for doing the same with Izanami."
"...The Americans are a world power...because you didn't want to deal with world politics?" Agatha asked baffled, "Not because their own effort? Are you saying that the effort we made is meaningless?"
"Yes," Papa didn't wait or bat an eye at Agatha's astonishment, "The Powerful has no reason to mind the struggle of the weak, for the powerful got there after striving to be better."
"Not everyone can achieve the degree of talent that you did, some of us have limits," Agatha said in a small voice. "And you are saying that our opinion doesn't matter?"
"Don't bother on that Gatty, I have been spending the last 400 years attempting to teach hubby the struggles of the weak," Mother said from the side shaking her head in defeat.
No, wait, wasn't she only 200 years old? Where had the extra 200 years come from?
"You?" Agatha said surprised, as if she had heard the most impossible thing ever, which to be honest, she had. Not even Elizabeth could understand how someone like Mother was the one advocating for the untalented.
"First of all, rude." Mother said narrowing her eyes, "And second of all, yes. Me, I know you all only know the beautiful and talented diva. But I was just like you....well not you Gatty, or Eli-Eli...or the pink menace there...actually I wasn't like any of you. I was more like...Let me see..."
Then Mother made a magical circle in the air that showed an image of the exterior, there she quickly started moving it all around passing by the images of several students(all females of course, because Mother couldn't cast something that showed anything that wasn't a cute girl even if her life depended on it).
It quickly looped around all the students and then started moving towards the exterior, soon Elizabeth wasn't sure what the people that showed had going for them, at some point they al started looking...average.
"Here! She is not as cute as I was, but it's close enough!" Mother said, stopping the spell in the image of...a random girl.
Elizabeth couldn't detect anything special on her, not in looks or mana capacity; actually, she couldn't detect any Mana on her.
"A civilian?" Agatha asked confused, "So what? You awoke your Magic after being a civilian?"
"Nope," Mother said, "Did you forget my backstory? I came from another world."
"Oh..." Elizabeth said.
"Yes Eli-Eli, oh indeed." Mother said nodding her head, "I was normal, talentless, painfully average...and the only thing I had going for myself was my good looks."
"Couldn't you use your [Divine Powers] to show us your past?" Rossie asked from the side.
"...This is why people don't like you, if it wasn't because Eli-Eli likes you I wouldn't even dignify your question with an answer," Mother said turning to Rossie with a smirk, "But to answer the question, my world died. And even if it didn't, no god can interact with their past. Not even to look at it, when you achieve apotheosis your past is removed and all of it is turned into [Mythos], just like how there are legends of me instead of reports. To Zaanam I descended to this world as a minor deity and started blessing girls with Magic. Hubby ascended as a local land deity and spread powers to everyone."
...Papa did look like the average land deity indeed. And Mother did have that vibe of an evil spirit, so Elizabeth didn't see anything wrong with that interpretation.
*Bonk*
"Ouch," Elizabeth somehow was unable to dodge the chop to the head from Mother, even with her stats, buffs to perception, control over Space. Her Mother's fist somehow managed to pierce all of that. "That was uncalled for."
Of course it wasn't and Elizabeth knew it.
"Yeah right, As a Mom I reserve the right to bonk any cheeky girl I birthed...And those that I didn't," Mother said while humphing, she could be so childish sometimes...
Elizabeth missed that.
"So going back to the main topic, hubby here is what we call a talented freak of nature genius with broken powers," Mother said pointing at Papa.
"I worke-" Papa started defending himself of course, and Elizabeth was sure he was right.
"Nope, no. It does not count," Mother, however, interrupted both Elizabeth and Papa's defense, "Hubby, how long did it take you to disassemble and reassemble your first rifle in the army?"
"...Around ten to fifteen seconds. Why?" Papa answered, Elizabeth knew not if that was fast or not, but if Papa did it, it ought to be at least fast enough.
"I see; for those that know nothing about it, what is the bare minimum time that is allowed for a soldier to field strip or disassemble their weapon?" Mother asked next.
"We are given two minutes and thirty seconds to disassemble, another two and half minutes to test it up to standard..." Papa answered, "That is because we are usually asked to do this after training, so we are tired and covered in grime, making it harder; most people can field strip their weapon in seconds; that is normal."
For a second Elizabeth had thought that Papa would burn away his excuse!
"And this was the very first time you disassembled your weapon? Were you doing it after training? Was the weapon functional after you did that?" Mother asked next.
"...It was after a day of training...and it was indeed the first time I had field striped...hmm...Am I a Genius?" Papa asked next to everyone around.
"...That does sound like a genius...sir." Rossie said from the side, "Nothing wrong with being a genius, Eli-Eli is also one."
"Any warrior worth their weight in gold should be able to instinctually know how to give maintenance to their weapons; I also don't see anything wrong with that." Rena added to the defense of Papa.
This was why Elizabeth loved both girls.
"Now, this was BEFORE he got his powers. What do you think his Power was? Oh right, lemme just....Eli-Eli already knows, but her waifus don't so...Tei," Mother pulled a couple strands of her hair and threw them at Rena, Rossie and Agatha...She hadn't done that to Agatha yet?
Either way, the two adorable(and hot/sexy) girls eyes shone in golden light...and Agatha also did the thing too or something.
"...wow." Rossie said, nursing the side of her head; Elizabeth wanted to give her a little smooch to pave over the pain.
"...Enhanced strength and durability, so...Indestructible body?" Rena asked, Elizabeth could see why someone would say that, since Papa rarely got hurt, his muscles were Rock Hard after all. There was a reason why the ideal man to Elizabeth was the buffed one...
"That is the obvious answer, the fact that Mother-In-Law asked is because that isn't his original [Skill], so..." Rossie said thinking while pouting cutely, "I'll say momentum preservation or full control over kinetic energy."
That was...one weird ass way to interpret Papa's Power.
"Probably a domain type, one that allowed to impose his will over a certain area around his body," Agatha said from the side, "That is the only one that could explain how someone that isn't...Catherine.....managed to achieve apotheosis."
Elizabeth nodded, that was one that actually made sense, even if it couldn't be more wrong.
"Nope," Mother said with a smile on her face, "His Power is adaptation. Explain your power hubby, not that it matters anymore. Or would matter before."
Papa sighed and shook his head, "My power is Hyperion Enhancement," Papa said, the words thrumming with Power as the symbol of a DNA spiral helix shone on his chest, "It allowed me to train and evolve against all odds."
And he didn't say anything else.
"In a nutshell, if you shoot hubby with a bullet he will get wound, but the second bullet will do less damage, and the third even less...Shot him enough times and eventually the bullets will stop hurting him." Mother said summoning images of Papa getting shot by bullets during the war, "The war was quite good on him, his skill let him become resistant to most type of wounds, bleeding out, disease, toxins and explosions. It made his muscles rip and regenerate almost daily..."
"And each time he became better for it, each time his muscles destroyed with excercise his body became more efficient, after a point his strenght limit dissapeared since his skill allowed him to get better at it..." Rossie said as she processed Papa's skill, "So his skill enhanced how he attained strength, but unlike everyone else. His skill also allowed his body to withstand the increased strength... Allowed his body to manage this Power uplifting all that was him... So when Magic came into the world."
"I was able to harness Mana to increase the efficiency of my skill. What was originally graded as K-Tier skill became F-Tier, then E...D...C....B...A...And finally S-Tier." Papa nodded at Rossie's understanding, "Anything that is thrown at me, if I can survive it, I can evolve past it. Mind manipulation is meaningless to me, so are most Magic and now that we ascended to divinity..."
....Yeah, that sounded like Papa; he was already working on making himself immune to divinity. Wonder what form would that take.
"But I still needed to work myself to the bone, I still needed to work for this Power. I can't grow in Power waiting or asking for Power from others if I want to be immune to divine fire. I need to be subject to Divine Fire." Papa said shaking his head and turning to Mother, "Unlike the magic casters who can conjure what they want from thin air. Unlike Lucia who made contracts with the fake gods we allowed to remain on this plane."
"Oh right, we should probably focus more on her than in us huh...So much Meandery." Mother said, dismissing all the other images and videos that had been piling up. "Lucia De'Medicci, [The Prophet] she is a holy caster and one that made a contract with a group of pseudo deities that we allowed to survive on Zaanam since Holy Type casters do need their power to come from Prana."
"And not because you wanted cute girls wearing nun magical girl-type dresses," Elizabeth said from the side.
"I can give you a list of tailors that can make your pink waifu to look sexy, cute, hot and like a sin all at once." Mother said in a serious tone.
"I am sorry for any bad thing I ever said about you, you are the best Mother any girl could hope to have." Elizabeth said falling to her knees and planting her head against the floor in front of Mother as a sign of apology.
Pride? Ego? Who cares about those things. Sexy, hot, cute and sinful Rossie nun? YES.
