Chapter 14

Gregory is sitting at the bar front next to General Richter, as they are the only two in the bar at the time, besides the bartender behind the bar front. Both Gregory and General Richter have half a glass of beer infront of them, as they talk. Gregory just comes out of briefing General Richter on Saige’s new decision to join the hunt for Azrael. “...And so he saw the people we protect and had a change of heart.”, says Gregory. “So suddenly like that he wants to join us?”, asks General Richter. “Also, Mai might’ve gotten into his head again.”, says Gregory.

“Damnit Greg...”, says General Richter as he slams his fist on the table. The bartender looks over with concern, while wiping a bar glass from behind the bar. Then the bartender goes back to focus on the bar glass. “...we don’t need this wishy washy decision making in our searching.”, says General Richter.

“I know I know... but just to bring it up again, he was the one who defeated Gallagar.”, says Gregory. “Not confirmed.”, says General Richter. “It was confirmed by Mai.”, says Gregory. General Richter takes a pause before talking. “Listen there’s multiple things to process here. Letting a demon work alongside our forces, seeing if he’s experienced enough at fighting and not being sure if he’s truly working with the other side or not.”, says General Richter. “So you’re believing Father Terrance?”, asks Gregory. “Not believing, but putting it down for consideration. I still find it a liability he’s here, but I don’t have the heart to kick him out.”, says General Richter.

The two take a brief pause both thinking it over as they both take a drink from their glasses and then put them down. “How about... I got it, Outpost 0.”, says General Richter. “What about it?”, asks Gregory. “You and Mai go back there and give a thorough report this time of the outpost and you take Saige with you.”, says General Richter.

“You can’t be serious.”, says Gregory. “If what you said is true, about him taking out Gallagar, then he should have no trouble getting you through Outpost 0.”, says General Richter.

“I almost lost Mai there.”, Gregory says as he closes the distance between his face and the side of General Richter’s head. “Then you can go with just you and Saige. But if Saige is so tough, he could help get you through this outpost.”, says General Richter. “Richter...”, says Gregory. “Hey Greg, I’m not saying you have to do it, but if Saige wants to be let on our side so bad, that’s the way I say he proves himself. Now you can take the offer or you can leave it.”, says General Richter in a slightly aggravated voice.

In soon time the two finish up at the bar, and Gregory comes back home to his own quarters. And he sees Kelsey, Mai and Saige resting in the living room looking at the TV, at a cartoon mouse being chased by a cartoon cat. Gregory walks over and presses a button on a box under the TV stand and the television program freezes.

“Aww”, says Kelsey. “Hey, what gives Greg, we were watching that”, says Saige. “Well watch it later. You wanted in on our search party, well you have it.”, says Gregory. “You’re in!”, yells Mai in contentment, as she goes to hug Saige. “Not yet, he has to do something first.”, says Gregory as Mai stops herself and goes back to sitting, while she pouts. “Me and you are going to Outpost 0.”, says Gregory. “Hold on, Outpost 0?”, asks Mai. “Richter said that’s the only way he can join. Prove himself by scouting out Outpost 0, then he can join us.”, explains Gregory.

“Wait, if he goes with you, then I’m coming too.”, says Mai, as she stands up with a determined look on her face. “No, it’s too dangerous Mai. You almost got lost there last time.”, says Gregory. “I’m not staying while you and Saige go alone.”, argues Mai. “Me too! I can’t let my new teammate, White Talon, go alone, as well!”, says Kelsey. “White who?”, asks Gregory. “It’s Saige’s hero title.”, explains Kelsey.

Gregory looks at Saige with confusion. “It’s a name I made up on the spot. I used it one time.”, says Saige. Gregory pinches his forehead then faces forward. “Fine. You three can all join in, but be careful.”, says Gregory. The three of them cheer and talk excitedly about Outpost 0, while Gregory groans, as no one notices.
